MAIN IDEAS
Brazil`s president, Inacio Lula da Silva announced a new plan to reduce the high level of crime in the country's cities.
The programme has been built to reduce the highest murder rates of Brazil, which is around 45.000 people killed each year and is the highest murder rates in the world.
This plan cost over $3bn (£1.5bn) and includes new prisons, because the ones that exist are overcrowded, with special facilities to provide jobs and education for convicts. They also want to improve the quality of policing.
PERSONAL COMMENTS
I really love Rio but it`s something so sad that a place so beautiful like this, the perfect place for me, is so dangerous! a shame! :(
This plan seems to be the first step to something that needs years of hard work to be fixed. I hope that Lula, or the others politicians, go on with this kind of activities to help Rio to shine again, as he always did it.
